The NASAMS™ system is a highly adaptable combat-proven medium-range air defense solution, also known as the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System.
The NASAMS system consists of the AN/MPQ-64 Sentinel® radar, Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace’s Fire Distribution Center, launcher, and Raytheon’s suite of effectors, including the AMRAAM® missile, AMRAAM-ER® and AIM-9X® missile.
In October 2021, Raytheon unveiled a new medium-range air and missile defense radar for the NASAMS system called the GhostEye® MR radar.
The NASAMS system provides air defenders with a tailorable, state-of-the-art defense system that can maximize their ability to acquire, engage and destroy current and evolving enemy fixed and rotary wing aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles and emerging cruise missile threats.
Homeland Defense
The NASAMS system is operated by 13 countries and has been integrated into the U.S. National Capital Region’s air defense system since 2005. In addition to the U.S., Norway, Finland, Spain, The Netherlands, Oman, Lithuania, Indonesia, Australia, Qatar, Hungary, Ukraine and one undisclosed country depend on the NASAMS system for homeland defense and the protection of critical assets. The system meets all NATO requirements for interoperability.
Flexible Architecture
In partnership with Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, the NASAMS system is built on a modular, distributed, open-hardware and software architecture. The system is positioned to embrace new technologies, capabilities and features to deliver unrivaled air defense.
